Greece Trip (6/3/2007) Farewell Il

Il is going back to Athens after breakfast. We took more pictures of the hotel after we packed the bags. Il was driven to the harbor at 10:45 to catch the 11:30 ship. I could have book a later ship for him that departs around 3:30 pm, but that will be a slow one and won't deliver him to Pireaus till 11:30 pm. Biajee said I should be considerate and let this guy suffer less.

We picked up our laundry at 11:30 am and then took the bus to Kamari again to visit Ancient Thira, the ruins we missed on the first day we arrived in Santorini. This time we took the minibuss uphill. It cost 8 euros per person, but well worth the money because we're carrying Arnold.

The ruin is quite impressive. We were standing among a whole city with full view of Santorini Airport. We didn't spend too much time up there though because we had a boat to catch to go to Crete at 16:55.

We picked the restaurant across the street of Hotel Cyclades for lunch. The Lamb with Lemon and the spaghetti were the best we'd had in Europe.

Upon arriving at the port, we found that our ship was canceled. It happens quite often in Greece. We were rebooked to Flying Cat 4 at 17:50. The ship almost had a full load of passengers. Arnold slept his way through the 2.5 hour trip.

A taxi driver dropped us off at Hotel Olympics on Crete and charged us 7 euros for it. Later Biajee and I found out that the hotel is within walking distance from the port. We decided to walk when we leave Crete to make back the 7 euros we lost.

Hotel Olympics only costs 50 euros per night, but offers a four-star service and free breakfast. We went to one of the restaurants in Liberty Square for dinner before we came back to the room and collapse. A baby cot was even prepared so Arnold actually didn't need to squeeze in between Biajee and me.

We decided to post a lot of pictures taken by Il in this blog in honor of him coming to spend time with us in Greece.
